White Deer Tours of the Former Seneca Army Depot

After many years of hard work and planning, the Seneca White Deer organization has begun tours, welcoming you to visit and experience the largest white deer herd of white-tailed deer in the world, visit an igloo that once helped store some of our Nation’s military arms, and learn more about the history of the former Seneca Army Depot.  

Located in the heart of beautiful wine country in the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York, Seneca White Deer Inc. (SWD) has preserved the unique wildlife and military history of this former army depot through conservation, ecotourism and economic development.

Tours are available in their 25 and 14-passenger, air-conditioned and heated tour buses give all visitors a comfortable seat for a 90-minute, narrated trip behind the fences of the former Seneca Army Depot.

It’s never guarantee where the mystical white deer will be, but your SWD tour guides know the best locations and will stop for pictures as they appear.  Tour routes will vary according to the weather and season, but take this opportunity to see the hidden world behind the fence and experience the magic of the white deer yourself.

After more than 70 years, the public can finally see the world’s largest herd of white, white-tailed deer, other wildlife, and the relics of 60 years of secret weapons storage. You can visit one of the 519 earth-covered concrete igloos that stored some of our military’s arms and equipment.

All tours leave from the John and Josephine Ingle Welcome Center at 5479 State Route 96A, Romulus NY regularly from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Sunday.  Tours will last between 1 ½ and 2 hours.

Photography is encouraged, so be sure to bring your camera for unforgettable photos and videos of the deer, other wildlife and military relics.  Binoculars are also helpful!

The tour fee is $30 for adults, $27 for military and seniors (65 and older), $15 for children (ages 5-17), and children under 5 are free.

As a non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization, Seneca White Deer, Inc. is run by an unpaid Board of Directors. The volunteer Board serves to promote the mission of SWD by working with Deer Haven Park and local officials to best preserve the unique wildlife and military history of the site.
